School Rules & Expectations
School Rules

School rules apply at all times in and around the campus, and in other places where students are under the supervision of a CHSAS staff member. Consideration for others will guide personal conduct. The rights, privileges, dignity and safety of other people will serve as criteria by which personal behavior will be evaluated. “Play Fighting” is not tolerated, and any students who appear to be engaging in such activity on school grounds will be deemed fighting under the Student Code Conduct. All hats worn by students on school property must be worn with the bib straight forward or straight back. Any hats cocked to the left or right will be treated as a sign of a gang affiliation. First offense will be a warning to students and parent notification. Second offense will result in a suspension of two to five days under the Student Code of Conduct.

The Student Code of Conduct will be followed in all matters concerning discipline. Copies are distributed to all students in advisory. It is the responsibility of the parent and student to read this document.

Identification Cards

Students must display IDs upon entering the building and at all times while in the building. Any student entering the building without an ID will be required to purchase a temporary ID for $1. After advisory, the cost will be $2. Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers to get their IDs. Temporary IDs must be worn right side up on the front over the shirt or blouse between the neck and sternum. Replacement IDs can be purchased for $5 through the attendance office. IDs are property of the school and must be surrendered upon request of a staff member.

Lunchroom/Cafeteria

Food and beverages may not be removed from the cafeteria. No food is allowed in any part of the building except the cafeteria. No food can be delivered to the school from restaurants during student lunch periods.

Closed Campus

No student is permitted to leave school property at any time during the school day unless under direct supervision of a staff member. Lunch is available in the cafeteria or students may bring lunch with them.

Dismissal

The building will be cleared at 3:20 p.m. Those participating in after-school activities must go to their lockers after their last class and leave school at the conclusion of the activity. No student may be in the building unless under the direct supervision of a staff member. Students waiting for a ride may wait in the vestibule at the main entrance. Students will not be allowed to return to the building for books. The community center opens at 6:00 p.m., and students can return for books at that time. Students can use the library for one hour Monday through Thursday or the weight room from Tuesday through Friday. Students who want to take advantage of these facilities must report to each by 3:20 p.m.

Loitering on school grounds will not be permitted and all students must be off the campus by 3:40 p.m. Students failing to leave will be charged with a misconduct for loitering.

Locks & Lockers

Lockers must be locked at all times. The assistant principal is in charge of all locker assignments. Only CHSAS distributed locks are permitted on lockers. Combinations should be kept private and locks should be closed properly. Lockers are the property of the school and must be used for the purpose intended: a storage area for books, school supplies and outdoor garments. If school officials have a reasonable suspicion that the student has placed illegal or dangerous materials or substances in the locker, they may then search the locker, with or without the student’s knowledge or consent. Locks will be placed on any locker without a lock. Do not leave valuables in lockers without locks. Replacement locks can be issued immediately in the main office. It is the responsibility of the student to remove all items from lockers by the last day of attendance in June. Any personal items left in lockers after the June clean-out day will be disposed of, or given to, Goodwill.

Parking

Students and visitors are only allowed to park in the parking lot north of the building. All vehicles must be registered and must display a permit which is available in the main office. Valid license and proof of insurance are required to obtain this permit. Cars must be parked within the boundaries of one parking space as defined by the yellow parking lines. Parking in the lot is a privilege and that privilege will be suspended for any unsafe behavior.

Visitors

Parents of students and other adults are welcome at CHSAS. All visitors must sign in at the main entrance security station and then report directly to the main office. School personnel will then escort visitors to their destination. All visitors are subject to a security check (metal detector screening) when entering the building. Teachers will not be disturbed during class; all conferences should be scheduled in advance and take place during the teachers’ planning periods.
